Beans – The Nitrogen Booster!!

RedBeansDid you know that beans adds nitrogen to the soil? One of the three main ingredients needed for healthy plant growth.  Beans along with nitrogen-fixed bacteria called Rhizobia work together to take nitrogen from the environment and put it into the soil.  The legume family include alfalfa, lentils, beans and others.

Plants that can benefit from growing along side beans:

  • Corn
  • Cucumbers
  • Tomatoes
  • Potatoes
  • Carrots
  • Beets
  • Eggplant
  • Kale
  • Strawberries

Beans are known to be very easy to grow and provide another source of protein for your family.  Hvae you ever made rice and beans?  If not check out this Cuban rice and beans recipe “Congris”.
