Soil2What is fertilizer?

Fertilizers add nutrients to the plants to help them grow strong and healthy.  These nutrient are Potassium, Phosphate, and Nitrogen.  As a plant grows it absorbs these nutrients from the soil.  You can add fertilizer before or after planting.

How does it differ from Compost?

Compost creates a better growing environment for plants but does not provide of the main nutrients for plant growth.

If you are looking to make your own DIY fertilizer, here are some of the ingredients you should look into: fish emulsion, chicken and rabbit manure, coffee grounds, tea leaves and banana peels.
