Extend the Shelf Life of Dry Foods with Mylar Bags

MylarBagsMylar bags are another way that you can keep food for long term storage. Some things you can store are rice, flour and other dry foods such as beans. The main things that effect food are sunlight, moisture, oxygen and rodents.  Mylar bags helps in all of these areas.  They should be used with Oxygen absorbers and  food grade storage buckets to keep rodents from chewing into the Mylar bags. The buckets should be kept in a room that is about 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • White Rice – 5 – 10 years – After 10 years the nutritional value starts to dwindle
  • Brown Rice – 2 – 5 years
  • white flour – 5 years – whole grain not recommended for longer term storage
  • Pasta – 5 years
  • Beans – 5 – 10 years
