As we search for more ways of being self-sufficient on a homestead, one thing that came to mind was coffee. So lets see how you can grow and harvest your own coffee on the homestead. A coffee tree loves rain and is grown in the tropics. But I won’t let this discourage me from trying to grow this in a greenhouse in Arkansas. After learning of a Nebraska farmer growing Citrus in a greenhouse, I just about think that anything is possible or I can at least try, right?
The 6 steps in making your own coffee at home is:
- Picking the coffee cherries
- Parchment Removal
According to the video below, the tree needs to be cut every few years so that when it grows back it gives more cherries. If this is not done then it will not produce so many cherries. Watch the video below to see the process from picking to having your own cup of coffee. The whole process took about 7 days.
